Dave Hobrecht is a sports enthusiast whose life was changed at an early age when he was hit by a car on the way home from the beach. With both legs shattered and his dreams of future athletic success eliminated. Dave could no longer fulfill his passion for sports as a participant. He chose instead to refocus his efforts toward documenting sport through art.

His artistic style is unique, with no true comparison. Dave developed an application method and medium that gives his pieces a level of detail, movement and realism.

STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST:

Only a select few can make their living as an athlete in the sport they love. The rest of us live for our own personal moments of glory and achievement. We imagine ourselves hanging out in the bleachers, hitting the shot or surfing with friends.

Occasionally we get a brief rush of adrenaline that comes from participating in our favorite sports. When we’re not working, raising kids, running errands, or paying bills – is there anything better than a pick-up game at the park, hitting the batting cages or driving range, a tail slide, or even a solo hike up the river to find the perfect hole?

Unfortunately, in our busy society, these moments are rarer than we would like. Catching the highlight reel on Sportscenter doesn’t quite cut it, but we don’t have time for much more than that. And reading the box scores the morning after is no substitute for what makes us sports enthusiasts in the first place – feeling like you are a part of the action, experiencing the moment and that surge of emotion.

The goal of my art work is to put you in that moment and give you a permanent visual in your home or office. If only for a second, I want you to feel like you’re actually playing, hiking, fishing or cheering right along with my portrait.

Maybe even inspire you to step outside…..

Dave’s classic black and white paintings give his images a sense of timelessness….a brief moment of sporting achievement captured forever in paper, charcoal and pastel. His angles and composition allow the viewer to experience that moment and relive the exhilaration with each glance.
